Meet young Tom Finch who in what feels like another lifetime lived for adventure. Riding motorcycles was his passion,

which quickly progressed to anything with an engine and he competed in Off-Road racing around the country.

For work he was a welder/fabricator where he built Monster Trucks to the sinking of the Titanic (Movie) and fabricated all kinds of things from sets in the film industry to parts for military aircraft. Then every rider/racer worst nightmare, Tom came off his bike in a race and his life changed forever.

After his accident Tom had to rethink everything and figure out how adapt to life after his spinal injury.

While he was unable to work for the first year, he returned to school and learned 3D Drafting. On his return to work his boss gave him the opportunity to prove he could still work in the shop.

With new skills in hand from school, Tom returned to work. There were changes that had to be made but his boss was encouraging and supportive. He lowered his work bench and added a lift to it as well, attached a thumb control to his welding machine and proved he could still accomplish all he was able to do before his accident and more.

The Birth Of Finch Adaptive Fabrication

As every wheelchair user knows the most important thing in life is to maintain your independence. The biggest challenge is figuring out all the workarounds but, Tom really wanted to help others with there dreams. Whether that be getting back to hiking or throwing a hand plant in the skatepark.

After a number of years working a full day then coming home and building wheelchairs. Tom took the tough decision to go it alone and hasn’t looked back.
